Actor and filmmaker Brian Kabugi, widely recognised across the entertainment industry as Real Bugi, has been thrown into deep mourning following the tragic passing of his mother after a courageous battle with illness.

The versatile star, who rose to fame as a child actor on the iconic show Machachari before cementing his status in global productions like Netflix’s Volume, broke the painful news to his fans and colleagues on Thursday evening, June 18, 2026.

However, alongside the immense emotional weight of losing a parent, the young filmmaker revealed that his family is concurrently locked in a stressful financial nightmare, facing a staggering Ksh3.8 million outstanding medical bill left behind in the wake of her treatment.

Taking to his social media platforms with a profoundly heavy heart, Bugi delivered a raw, vulnerable statement that instantly sent shockwaves through the local creative community.

“I never thought I would have to write a post like this,” the actor confessed.

“With a heavy heart, I share that my mother, my best friend, the woman who held me close and whom I held close, is no longer with us.”

Detailing her final days, the actor expressed immense pride in how fiercely his mother fought against the ailments that plagued her health before her peaceful transition on Monday morning.

“She had been unwell for some time, and we truly did everything we could. I watched her fight. I watched her push through. But on Monday morning, she chose to rest. As much as this breaks my heart, I find comfort in knowing that she is no longer in pain.”

With the passing of their matriarch, the family’s focus must now turn toward preparing her final resting place.

However, the multi-million shilling medical debt remains a towering roadblock to planning her burial.

Bugi has humbly reached out to his industry colleagues, corporate partners, fans, and the general public, asking for any financial contributions necessary to liquidate the healthcare arrears.

“As we navigate this loss, we are also faced with the reality of an outstanding hospital bill of KES 3.8 million,” the actor noted.

“I am humbly appealing to my community, friends, family, and anyone who is able, to help us clear this amount so that we can give her a peaceful and dignified send-off.”

As news of the tragedy spread across Nairobi’s entertainment scene, dozens of prominent actors, directors, and fans flooded the comment sections with messages of condolences, rallying support for the young creative who has given so much to Kenyan television.

Acknowledging the overwhelming influx of support, Bugi noted that while he might be too overwhelmed to respond to every incoming call or message directly, no act of kindness goes unnoticed.

“I may not be able to respond to every message or call right now, but please know that every prayer, kind word, contribution, and act of support means more than I can put into words,” he concluded.
