Eric Omondi backs Babu Owino’s party to hit 1M members amid Mosiria’s doubts

Comedian Eric Omondi has backed Embakasi East MP Babu Owino’s The Mwananchi Party (TMP) to hit one million members, amid doubts raised by Nairobi County Chief Officer Geoffrey Mosiria over the party’s membership figures.

In an Instagram post on Saturday, September 26, 2026, Omondi expressed confidence in the party’s growth, suggesting it could hit the one-million-member mark by evening if more young people joined, after Babu claimed that TMP had registered 660,008 members within six days.

“The Future Looks Good. 660,000 members in 6 days. Vijana wataungana wote. Hii Itafika Mita by Leo Jioni,” Omondi wrote, tagging Babu Owino.

His remarks come a day after Babu celebrated what he described as a record-breaking milestone for the newly formed party.

Babu’s 660K members

Babu announced on Friday, September 25, that TMP had registered 660,008 members.

The Embakasi East MP said the figure reflected the support Kenyans were giving the party.

“In just 6 days, the Mwananchi Party has registered a total of 660,008 members. This remarkable milestone reflects the trust, confidence and support that Kenyans are placing in TMP,” Babu said.

Babu has been promoting TMP as his political vehicle ahead of the 2027 General Election and has previously indicated that he intends to run for Nairobi governor on the party’s ticket.

Mosiria disputes figure

However, Mosiria disputed Babu’s membership figure, claiming that TMP had only registered around 46,000 members.

“Pure lie. By today at 2 PM, they had around 46K registered members, not 660K,” Mosiria said.

Mosiria challenged Babu to provide evidence of the figure and called on him to make the registration data available for public verification.

“If I am lying, let him go live on Facebook and TikTok and open the portal so that we can all see the actual data from the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP),” Mosiria said.
