‘It hurts’ – Arrow Bwoy opens up about relationship struggles in new song with Nadia Mukami

Kenyan singer Arrow Bwoy has opened up about the pain of dealing with relationship struggles as he teams up with his former partner Nadia Mukami on their new song, Yumba.
In a post shared on his Instagram page on Friday, September 26, 2026, Arrow Bwoy described the emotions behind the song, encouraging people who have gone through similar relationship struggles to join the Yumba Challenge.
“Sometimes I choose to keep quiet, but yoooh, it hurts. Ni uchungu sana. Kama ushaijipata kwa situation kama yangu, let’s make use of this sound. #YumbaChallenge. Yumba is now out on digital platforms,” he said.

Yumba comes at a notable point in Arrow Bwoy and Nadia Mukami’s relationship, with the two musicians having separated after years together. The title Yumba refers to instability or uncertainty, which reflects the central theme of the song. Nadia previously explained that their relationship had gone through difficulties before eventually coming to an end.
While promoting the song, she shared a snippet from its music video showing the two having an argument, using the scene to portray a relationship that is struggling. “Relationships are not perfect! Mpaka sisi mapenzi ilianza kuyumba yumba, mwishowe tukaachana,” Nadia said while introducing the song.
The argument shown in the video is part of the storyline for Yumba and should not be taken as a direct representation of what happened between the two in real life.
The song comes after their separation
Arrow Bwoy and Nadia’s collaboration has attracted attention because they are working together despite no longer being romantically involved.
Nadia previously revealed that the relationship had been on and off for about one and a half years before they eventually separated. She also said the experience was difficult as she balanced motherhood, work and her public life.
The former couple share two children and have continued to maintain a co-parenting relationship following their separation. Their decision to make music together has also shown that their professional relationship has continued despite the end of their romantic relationship.
Arrow Bwoy and Nadia continue making music
Yumba is not the first song the two have released together. They have previously worked on collaborations including Dai and Radio Love.
They have also shared the stage since their separation. In August 2026, Arrow Bwoy joined Nadia at her 10 Years of Nadia Mukami concert, where they performed together. He later surprised her with flowers during another performance of Dai at an entertainment venue.
Despite such public appearances, Nadia has previously clarified that performing together should not be interpreted as a reconciliation between them.
