Eddie Butita advices men to stop going to boxing matches with their wives

Comedian and content creator Eddie Butita has sparked reactions online after sharing why he would think twice before attending a boxing match with his girlfriend by his side.

In a post shared on his Instagram page on Sunday, June 21, 2026, Butita jokingly suggested that some events are best attended with a partner only when victory is guaranteed.

The comedian made the remarks a day after the Vurugu boxing event at the Sarit Expo Centre in Westlands, Nairobi, where several celebrities stepped into the ring in front of packed crowds and cheering supporters.

Butita shares his statement

Reacting to the fights that took place over the weekend, Butita said he would only invite his girlfriend to watch him participate in a boxing match if he was confident of winning. According to him, being defeated in front of a romantic partner would be difficult to recover from, especially after all the confidence that often comes before a fight.

“If you ever see me participating in a boxing fight and you see my girlfriend there, just know I will make sure I win. I will not allow myself to lose,” he said.

The comedian continued with a humorous description of what he imagines would happen if things went wrong inside the ring. “You can imagine your girlfriend attending your boxing fight and you end up being beaten until you fall down on the floor with your mouth open. My gangster point will not allow it,” he said.

Remarks come after Arrow Bwoy’s defeat

Butita’s comments came shortly after one of the most talked-about moments from the Vurugu event. Ugandan socialite Shakib Cham secured a technical knockout victory over Kenyan musician Arrow Bwoy in their highly anticipated celebrity boxing contest on Saturday night.

The fight attracted significant attention online, partly because Arrow Bwoy’s wife, singer Nadia Mukami, was among those present to support him from ringside.

Following the defeat, videos circulating online showed Nadia reacting emotionally as she watched the outcome of the match, with many social media users discussing the moment throughout the weekend.

Vurugu delivers memorable boxing action

Beyond the celebrity showdown, the event featured several competitive bouts that kept fans entertained throughout the evening. Fatuma “Iron Fist” Zarika registered one of the biggest victories of the night after defeating Tanzania’s Najma Isike by technical knockout in the sixth and final round.

Bernard Achoki also earned a technical knockout victory against Azaad Nasir, while Salim Amoit defeated Tanzania’s Deogratious through a unanimous decision. Tyson Mauru added another win to the card after overcoming Clinton by unanimous decision, while Munaswar and Mr Clear The Air fought to a draw in one of the night’s closest contests.

The Vurugu event, organised by media personality Oga Obinna through Obinna TV Studios, combined celebrity boxing, competitive fights and live entertainment, ensuring that discussions continued long after the final bell rang.
