‘Don’t say what I want to hear’ – YY challenges Obinna over Gikomba project

Comedian and content creator YY has challenged fellow media personality Oga Obinna to visit Gikomba and independently assess an ongoing project after the two appeared to differ over the development.
YY made the remarks on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, in a response directed at Obinna, challenging him to visit the market, interact with people on the ground and share his findings with the public.
Oga Obinna questions project
In the first part of the conversation, Oga Obinna spoke about the Gikomba project, with his remarks coming amid online discussions and claims surrounding his perceived position on government projects.
The claims have partly been linked to Obinna’s previous comments about his willingness to support either the government or opposition if paid. On September 17, Obinna said he would support either side provided he was paid, adding that he would no longer offer political marketing for free.
His remarks have since continued to fuel conversations online, with some social media users questioning whether his commentary on government initiatives is influenced by political interests.
YY asks Obinna to visit Gikomba
Responding to Obinna, YY challenged him to personally visit Gikomba before forming or sharing an opinion about the project.
“ Oga Obinna, I want to challenge you today. Nataka kesho, enda Gikomba,” YY said.
He explained that he had visited the area and wanted Obinna to undertake his own assessment rather than rely on information from other people.
“I’ve been there today, and before I share what I have seen, I want you to take an initiative. Wewe enda Gikomba. Wewe mwenyewe, enda gikosh. Go, walk around, see the project, ask questions, and when you come back, give us your findings,” he added.
YY further urged Obinna to remain independent in his assessment, asking him not to tailor his findings to suit what he believed people wanted to hear.
“Don’t say what I want to hear. Don’t say what any other person wants to hear. Please, just come back and give us your findings,” YY said.
The exchange comes as work on the Gikomba Market redevelopment enters its final stages. Recent reports indicate that plastering, painting and stall partitioning are underway, with the project expected to be completed within a month.
YY’s challenge now puts the focus on whether Obinna will visit the site and share his own assessment of the project.
