Gen Z Goliath Bradley Marongo has revealed that he is never able to use aeroplane washrooms because of his extraordinary height, saying the confined spaces are too small for him to comfortably use.

Speaking in an interview with the BBC on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, Marongo said he could endure long-haul flights lasting up to 14 hours without visiting the washroom because of the challenge posed by the limited space inside aeroplane toilets.

“But I cannot use aeroplane toilets because of my height. I can travel for 14 hours but I cannot go to the washroom because it is so small,” he said.

Marongo, who has gained widespread attention in Kenya and beyond because of his towering stature, said he believed he could be among the tallest men in Africa, although he was not certain about the claim.

“I think I am the tallest man in Africa but I am not sure,” he said.

He also explained how he acquired the nickname Gen Z Goliath, saying Kenyans gave him the name after he appeared during the anti-Finance Bill protests.

“Kenyans gave me the name Gen Z Goliath after I appeared in the anti-Finance Bill protests,” Marongo said.

According to Marongo, photographs of him taken during that period quickly spread across social media because of his unusual appearance and exceptional height.

“From there my photos went viral because I am different and I am the tallest man and I also wear the biggest shoes,” he said.

Conductor job

Marongo also opened up about his early days in Nairobi, revealing that his first job in the capital was working as a conductor.

However, he said the job proved difficult and negatively affected his wellbeing because of the demanding schedule.

“When I came to Nairobi for the first time, I came to be a conductor first. The job was not good because I got there and due to the job I could not sleep. And then I got sick for one month and I quit and came to live in Kangemi,” he said.

Marongo said his fortunes later began to change after he had spent about two months in Kangemi, where he received a call from his friend Frank, who has since become his manager.

The opportunity eventually led to his first interview, which he said went viral and helped propel him further into the public spotlight.

“After two months I got a call from my friend Frank, who is my manager now and he told me, ‘Bradley, you have an opportunity. Try this and this. From there I did an interview and it went viral,” Marongo said.

Custom-made wardrobe

Marongo also explained that his extraordinary height has made ordinary shopping difficult, forcing him to have much of what he wears specially made.

“For my shoes, all are custom-made, including clothes, because of my height,” he said.

He said the need for customised clothing and footwear is one of the realities of living with his exceptional height.

Beyond the challenges, Marongo has also embraced the attention that comes with his appearance, saying photography has become an important part of his work.

He revealed that he can take around 1,000 photographs in a single day as fans and other people seek to capture moments with him.

“In a day I can take around 1,000 photos and when I visited Ethiopia, I took around 3,000 or 4,000 photos in a week only,” he said.

Despite the enormous number of photographs he takes with fans, Marongo said he is comfortable with the attention because it has become part of his work.

“But I am happy with that as it is my job,” he said.
