Philanthropist and Facebook influencer Apostle Dan Wema has mourned young Kakamega man Erick, whom he had supported through his battle with cancer, following his burial on Friday, August 21, 2026.

In an emotional post following the burial on Friday, August 21, 2026, Wema described Erick’s death as a painful end to a battle he had closely followed.

“And that is how cancer took our brother Erick… Bye-bye, bro,” Wema wrote.

He also expressed disbelief at the young age at which Erick died, noting that he was born in 2001.

“Cancer will one day die… Imagine kijana wa 2001 akatuacha,” Wema wrote.

Erick’s treatment

Before Erick’s burial, Wema had shared details of the arrangements and revealed the extent to which he had become involved in supporting the young man and his family.

In an update issued five days before the burial, Wema said he had personally committed himself to ensuring that Erick received a decent and dignified send-off.

He said Erick’s body would be moved from Kakamega Orthopaedic Funeral Home in Malava on Thursday, August 20, before his burial at his family home in Lubao, Malava Constituency, Kakamega County, on Friday.

“I have personally committed myself to making Erick’s funeral a decent and dignified one,” Wema said.

However, his support for the family, he noted, would not end with the burial.

Wema revealed that Erick’s illness had placed significant financial pressure on his family, forcing his mother to sell the cows she owned to help meet the costs of his treatment.

He promised to help the family rebuild its source of livelihood by replacing the cows that had been sold during Erick’s illness.

“During Erick’s treatment, Mama Erick had to sell all the cows she had. I will make sure she gets cows again for milk,” he said.

Wema also pledged to support Erick’s brother, Donald, who had expressed a desire to acquire a motorbike.

He said Donald already operated a shop and promised to boost the business so that the family could have a more sustainable source of income.

“He already has a shop, and we will also boost his business so that he can continue building a sustainable future for the family,” Wema said.

Wema also disclosed that he and those supporting Erick had settled his outstanding hospital bill during his treatment.

According to Wema, the hospital had declined to accept SHA medical cover for some of the outstanding matters, leaving the family and supporters to take care of the bill.

“The hospital bill we sorted out. We had to take care of everything because the hospital declined to accept the SHA medical cover for the outstanding matters,” he said.

He thanked everyone who had contributed financially, offered prayers or supported the family during Erick’s illness.

Wema said the support had helped him continue standing with Erick and his family during what was a difficult period.
