AFRIMMA 2026: Crazy Kennar and Eric Omondi earn prestigious nominations

The African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA) 2026 has officially unveiled its latest list of nominees, with Kenyan entertainers making a strong showing across comedy, digital content and acting categories.
In an announcement shared on Instagram on Tuesday, July 15, 2026, AFRIMMA revealed that content creator Crazy Kennar, veteran comedian Eric Omondi, stand-up comic Ty Ngachira, and actor Zander Adika are among 2026 nominees.
Crazy Kennar nominated
Skit maker Crazy Kennar has been nominated in the Best Influencer category following another successful year of creating comedy content that has attracted millions of views across Africa.
Kennar has built one of Kenya’s biggest digital entertainment brands through relatable comedy skits inspired by everyday life.
He will face stiff competition from international content creator Khaby Lame, Nigeria’s Nasty Blaq, Carter Efe, Mr Funny and Peller, South Africa’s Lasizwe, Morocco’s Ilyas El Maliki, and Rwanda’s Uwase Muyango.
Eric Omondi, Ty Ngachira in comedy race
Veteran comedian Eric Omondi has been nominated for Best African Comedian, where he will battle South Africa’s Trevor Noah, Nigeria’s Basketmouth, Bovi, Godfrey and Real Warri Pikin, Uganda’s Patrick Salvador, and fellow Kenyan Ty Ngachira.
Omondi remains one of Kenya’s most influential comedians, having built a career spanning stand-up comedy, television, acting and philanthropy. In recent years, he has also used his platform to champion charitable causes and social issues.
Ty Ngachira, a lawyer-turned-comedian, has earned praise for his witty stand-up performances, legal satire and bilingual comedy delivered in English, Kiswahili, and Kikuyu. His nomination reflects the growing recognition of Kenya’s stand-up comedy scene on the continental stage.
Zander Adika earns acting recognition
Kenyan actor Zander Adika has also been nominated in the Best Actor & Actress category.
An AFDA-trained actor, Adika has steadily built his career through roles in the Kenyan telenovela Lazizi, the Hollywood historical epic The Woman King, starring Viola Davis, and Apple’s science-fiction series Invasion. The nomination marks another milestone for the rising actor as he gains recognition beyond Kenya.
He will compete against Nigeria’s Timini Egbuson, Uche Montana, Bimbo Ademoye and Uzor Arukwe, Tanzania’s Elizabeth Michael, and South Africa’s Pallance Dladla and Masali Baduza.
The latest nominations add to Kenya’s impressive representation at this year’s AFRIMMA Awards after musicians Bien, Bridget Blue, Nikita Kering and Njerae were earlier nominated in the East African music categories.
The annual awards celebrate excellence across African music, comedy, film and digital content while bringing together creatives from across the continent and the diaspora.
The awards ceremony will be held on September 12, 2026, at the Annette Strauss Square, AT&T Performing Arts Centre in Dallas, Texas.
