Boniface Mwangi reflects on son turning 19 in emotional message
Activist Boniface Mwangi has shared an emotional message reflecting on his son turning 19, saying the milestone has made him think deeply about time, family, and personal priorities.
He described the moment as both joyful and emotional as his son grows into adulthood in a post on Saturday, May 16, 2026.
Boniface Mwangi, who is seeking to be the next president of Kenya, said he cannot fully explain how he feels as his son becomes his own man. He noted that the birthday brought mixed emotions, especially as he reflected on how fast time has passed.

“Our son turned 19 yesterday, and I can’t explain the feeling,” Boniface Mwangi said.
“He is becoming his own man. My friends asked how it feels, and it’s bittersweet,” he added.
Reflections on family and time
Mwangi explained that the passing years have made him question whether he spent enough time with his son while he was growing up. He said he often wonders if his child will manage well on his own in the world.
“Time flies, and I find myself wondering if I spent enough time with him and whether he’ll be okay out there in the world on his own,” he said.
He added that although he believes he did his best as a parent, he still thinks about what he would change if he had another chance. According to him, family would have been his top priority.

“I know I did my best, but if I could go back in time, I would prioritise family above everything else,” Mwangi explained.
Mwangi also shared a life lesson passed down from his mother when he was a teenager. He said the advice has guided him throughout his life and continues to influence how he handles relationships.
“When I was a teenager, my mum gave me some advice, and it’s the same one I have passed on to my son: ‘Menya guikarania na adu’ (learn to live/get along with people),” he said.
He noted that the advice has helped him even during difficult moments in relationships, allowing him to reflect and learn from mistakes instead of giving up.
“That advice has served me well because even when I mess up relationships, I remember her words and learn my lesson,” Mwangi added.
Mwangi ended his message by encouraging people to value their loved ones while they still have time with them. He said simple actions like showing love and attention to family members should not be ignored.
