Boniface Mwangi explains why he wants to be the next president
Activist Boniface Mwangi has explained why he wants to run for the presidency, citing his commitment to fighting corruption, creating jobs for young people, and protecting public resources.
Mwangi said his decision is driven by a deep understanding of the struggles Kenyans face and a belief that real change can only come through courageous leadership
The human rights defender launched his 2027 presidential bid at Ufungamano House in Nairobi on Wednesday, August 27, 2025.
Whatever we have started, we must finish
In a short online interview with a local media station on Friday, September 19, 2025, Mwangi revealed that his activism has come at a personal cost, with his family constantly living in fear that he may be killed for speaking out. However, he said backing down is not an option.
“My family lives in fear that I might be killed anytime. For how much money is it worth it? It is not worth it. Whatever we have started, we must finish,” he told the local media house.
The activist said that his presidential ambition is not about personal gain but about transforming Kenya’s leadership culture. He said he wants to give young people opportunities, recover stolen public wealth, and ensure the country’s resources are used to improve lives.

“I want to give jobs to the youth and return public property that has been stolen,” Mwangi said.
Message to Gen Z
Reflecting on his two decades in activism, Mwangi said he has experienced the pain and frustration of ordinary Kenyans, which keeps him motivated despite moments of fatigue.
“I have given up so many times. I am tired many times. But if I give up, I will be a slave in this country,” he said, adding that his activism has shaped his vision for Kenya.

Mwangi also shared that if he had not become an activist, he would likely have been a history teacher, as he has a passion for teaching.
He called on young people, especially Gen Z, to resist being manipulated by tribal politics and not to sell their votes.
“Don’t sell your votes, whatever happens. Don’t be tribal. Don’t allow leaders to divide you on the basis of tribe. You can never achieve anything without courage,” he advised.
Mwangi said his campaign will be centred on courage, accountability, and service to the people, arguing that only bold leadership can rescue Kenya from the cycle of corruption.
