Bernice Saroni recalls son getting 37 stitches on the stomach after nasty school accident

USA-based Kenyan content creator Bernice Saroni has shared a detailed account of the terrifying day her son was rushed to hospital bleeding following an accident at his school gym.

In a post on her Facebook page on Monday, February 2, 2026, Saroni recounted how she first learned of the incident through a call from the school nurse and immediately sensed that something was wrong.

“My baby got hurt at school. At the gym. He got a deep cut in the stomach. Then the call came from the school Nurse. ‘Hi, is this Andrew’s mom?’ Before she even finished the sentence, my spirit knew… something was wrong,” she wrote.

She described how she collapsed to the floor at work upon hearing that her son had suffered a deep cut to his stomach and that an ambulance was on the way.

She explained that the 25-minute drive to the hospital felt excruciating as every second heightened her worry, and her phone kept ringing with messages from concerned family members.

“‘Things are not good. Andrew has a deep cut. The ambulance is on the way.’ I collapsed. Right there at work. I sat on the floor and cried like a child. Not again, God… please not my son. That 25-minute drive to the hospital felt like torture. Every second was loud. My phone kept ringing,” she shared.

Saroni recounted how the nurse had put the phone to her son while he was in pain, calling for his mother, which left her heart shattered.

She explained that her other children were crying simultaneously, adding to the emotional strain, and she felt helpless as she could not comfort any of them during the crisis.

“The nurse put the phone to my baby’s ear while he screamed in pain, ‘Mommy, where are you?’ And my heart shattered. I kept saying, ‘I’m coming, baby… please hold on. Mommy is coming.’ Then my other sons started calling. Crying. All my children are crying at the same time… And me unable to hold any of them,” she shared.

She further detailed that her son required 37 stitches to treat the wound and that the following two weeks were filled with fear, night prayers, and quiet tears.

Despite the trauma, Saroni emphasised her gratitude for her son’s survival and for being able to see him return to school, where his classmates welcomed him warmly.

“I begged God in that car. I promised. I pleaded. I cried until my chest hurt. 37 stitches. Seeing my baby stitched up broke something inside me. Two weeks at home. Fear. Night prayers. Silent tears. But God didn’t leave us. Stitches came out on Friday,” she added.

Saroni also reflected on the ordeal as a reminder of the fragility of life and the need for constant vigilance, expressing her relief and thankfulness that her child was safe.

She credited God for keeping her son alive and shared that she would never stop acknowledging and thanking Him for the protection.

“Today he went back to school. The kids were so happy to receive him… and I stood there smiling while my heart was still shaking. I’m grateful… but I’m still a mother who almost lost her breath that day. God kept my child alive. And for that — I will never stop thanking Him.” ** “I will not die but live and will proclaim what the Lord has done,” — Psalm 118:17🙏,” she wrote.
