Anne Kansiime reveals how Kenyan interview led her to end her marriage

Veteran Ugandan comedienne Anne Kansiime has opened up about a pivotal moment in her life that influenced her decision to end her marriage.

The revelation came during a candid conversation with Wonder Jr. in an episode aired on Monday, April 6, 2026, where she reflected on how a seemingly simple interview sparked deep introspection about her future.

Kansiime recalled a question asked by a Kenyan journalist during her visit to Nairobi.

“I remember I had just come back from Nairobi, and someone had asked me during an interview where I see myself in five years, and he was not there where I was seeing myself; if I was going to where I was seeing, he was not there,” Kansiime recalled.

She says the interview stayed on her mind, prompting a serious conversation with her then-husband.

“It had been on my head, and I sat, and I told him we needed to talk,” she stated.

“I told him I do not think I want to be married like this. It was a straight-up conversation, and he told me ‘Anne, not everything is comedy. You joke with life a lot; you are married, and you do not wake up and say you do not feel like'”

The mother of one further stated that her husband’s response, however, left her frustrated.

“I think for me, at that moment, I snapped out of it, and I was like, ‘So this guy does not know when I am serious?'” she added.

Kansiime explained that after that conversation, she chose to step back and reflect.

“I then kept quiet and moved on,” Kansiime said.

Paying her dowry

Apart from ending her marriage, the entertainer also narrated what pushed her to pay her own bride price.

Kansiime explained how she introduced her then-partner to her parents, who welcomed him and requested a dowry. However, when he failed to pay, she took matters into her own hands.

“I introduced him to my parents, who accepted him and asked him to bring a dowry, which he didn’t bring,” she explained.

“They overasked for it, and I paid it myself. When I paid, he forgot about it, I forgot about it, and we moved on with life.”

It is worth noting that Anne Kansiime was married to Gerald Ojok for four years before the relationship ended around 2017.

She then fell in love again with a fellow artist, Skylanta, in 2018, with whom she had a child.
