Alex Mwakideu questions age parents should stop supporting their daughters
Radio host Alex Mwakideu has questioned when parents should stop supporting their daughters, saying it is wrong for families to completely abandon a child.
Speaking on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, on the radio, he addressed the issue during his morning show while discussing a case of a young girl who has a family but struggles with basic needs.
“At what age do we say mtoto wa kike ashakua sasa muache ajitafutie. Shame on you as a family,” Mwakideu said.
He expressed concern about children who are left without support.
“Nataka turegeshe kitu inaitwa mahakama 47. When a child feels like a family amemuachilia kabisa, haijali atasoma aje, haijali ataenda hospitali aje? At what age? It is very bad, by the way. Nothing hurts more than being in a family that neglects you. Shame on you.”

Mwakideu referred to a specific case on his show where a young girl is depressed because her family does not provide even for her transport needs. He described how the girl has a family but lacks the money to travel or access basic services. His tone showed clear frustration and pain over such neglect.
Parents must care for their children
As a father of three daughters, Mwakideu spoke from experience and empathy. He said families should not abandon children once they reach a certain age, as love and care should remain consistent. His concern stems from seeing children struggle while their families turn away from responsibility.

Mwakideu is a committed family man and has shared his own milestones publicly. He and his wife recently marked 11 years together on Saturday, December 27, 2025. The couple celebrated their anniversary with a heartfelt message that highlighted their journey and the bond they continue to grow. The milestone reflects steady love and commitment, which he contrasts with families who neglect their children.
Through his discussion, Mwakideu called on parents and families to remember the responsibility they hold for their children’s well-being. He explained that abandoning a child, no matter their age, can have lasting emotional and practical consequences.
While some families provide ongoing support, others fail, and Mwakideu said this is unacceptable. He urged families to act with love and responsibility rather than neglect and abandonment.
