Alex Mwakideu explains why Christmas makes men spend without thinking

Alex Mwakideu has explained why the Christmas season makes many men spend money without thinking.
Speaking on his radio show on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, he said Christmas comes with a strong spirit of happiness that affects decision-making.
“Krismasi ni msimu ambapo watu, wanaume especially, kuna roho ya furaha,” he said, adding that even he feels carried away by the mood.
He admitted that the festive feeling is powerful and hard to resist.
“Mimi tayari nishatekwa,” Alex said, explaining that Christmas excitement takes over the body and mind. According to him, the change happens naturally and without warning.
Alex described the feeling using a vivid image.
“Kuna kitu ambayo huwa inafanya mtu ni kama sindano fulani inakudunga,” he said.

He explained that the body starts to relax, the heart feels happy, and the mind becomes calm. “Mwili inaskia imerelax, roho inaskia imefurahi,” he added.
He said the effect goes deeper than emotions.
“Akili inaskia imetulia, nafsi iko hewani, inapepea,” Alex explained. In that state, spending money feels easy and enjoyable, with little thought about consequences.
How festive moods affect wallets
Alex said that once the festive feeling settles in, spending increases.
“Utajikuta kwamba wallet yako unaifungua sana,” he said. He noted that men become more generous and less cautious during this season.
He also spoke about the role of mobile money.
“Na kama wewe ni mtu wa mpesa, kidole chako utapata kila wakati kiko katika ile app,” he said. According to Alex, people keep opening the app without hesitation. “Unaweka tu pin,” he added.
He said spending even feels good at the time.
“Na unafurahia by the way,” Alex noted, explaining that the joy of giving or paying removes any immediate regret. The happiness makes it hard to stop.
However, Alex issued a strong warning when alcohol is involved.
“Lakini ukilewa, wachana na mpesa,” he said firmly. He stressed that alcohol makes the situation worse, and spending becomes reckless.
He repeated the warning clearly for emphasis. “Mwanaume ukilewa wachana na mpesa kabisa,” Alex said. He advised men to separate alcohol and money during the festive season.
