Police officers from Yala Police Station successfully recovered three stolen cows in Ulumbi Village, Siaya County, following a coordinated road hunt.

In a post on X on Monday, November 24, 2025, the National Police Service reported that the operation began when officers on routine patrol along the Butere-Ulumbi road intercepted a suspicious car, suspected to be carrying stolen livestock.

The vehicle attempted to evade the police but was eventually stopped. The four occupants, now considered persons of interest, abandoned the car and fled on foot, leaving the stolen cattle behind.

During a search of the vehicle, officers recovered additional items, including a kitchen knife and a mobile phone.

The car was impounded at Yala Police Station, while the other recovered exhibits were secured for further investigation.

Officers praised

The National Police Service praised the officers involved, noting that vigilance and quick action were key to recovering the cattle and preventing potential loss to the local farming community.

The recovery follows a string of similar successful operations in the region, including a recent case in Turkana County where police recovered ten camels stolen by armed bandits in Loima Sub-County.

In that operation, a coordinated effort between local police and community members led to the arrest of one person of interest, while the remaining perpetrators remain at large.

In Meru County, authorities successfully recovered 148 stolen animals in coordinated operations involving local police and community support
