Police launch manhunt after recovering stolen livestock

The National Police Service (NPS) has initiated a manhunt for individuals responsible for the theft of livestock in West Pokot County, following the successful recovery of twenty-seven (27) goats.
In a statement posted on their official X account on Monday, August 4, 2025, NPS revealed that a multi-agency security team, in collaboration with elders from Lochakula Sub-Location, had managed to recover the stolen goats from Lochakula Sub-Location, Masol Location, Pokot Central Sub-County.
“Today, Monday, 4th August 2025, a multi-agency security team, supported by elders from Lochakula Sub-Location, successfully recovered twenty-seven (27) goats in Lochakula Sub-Location, Masol Location, Pokot Central Sub-County, West Pokot County,” the statement read.
Succesful operation
According to the Police, the livestock was stolen on July 26, 2025, and the incident was initially reported to the Kainuk Police Station, which prompted the recovery operation.
“The recovered goats were transported to Kainuk ASTU Camp, where they await identification and handover to their rightful owners,” NPS stated.
Authorities further confirmed that a comprehensive security operation is underway to track down and apprehend the individuals behind the theft.
“A security operation to pursue and apprehend the suspects responsible for the theft is ongoing,” the statement indicated.

Similar incident
This operation follows a recent incident where police officers in Molo, Nakuru County, recovered part of a stolen cattle herd after a raid in Kapsita area.
In a statement shared on X on Sunday, July 20, 2025, police announced that following an intensive search, the recovered animals were transported to the local police post and returned to their rightful owner.
“Following a report of stolen cattle in the Kapsita area, National Police Service officers from Turi Police Post and ASTU Elburgon responded promptly. They mounted an intensive search, recovering part of the herd. The recovered cows were taken to the police post and handed over to the owner,” NPS wrote.
“Our officers are on the ground, tracking the suspects involved in this theft. We are committed to ensuring all stolen livestock is recovered. We will not relent until all the stolen livestock is recovered and the criminals behind this are apprehended,” NPS added.
