Police arrest 2 in possession of Chang’aa, Busaa in Bomet
By Aloys Michael, October 29, 2025Police in Bomet County have intensified their crackdown on illicit alcohol, arresting two persons of interest during a multi-agency operation in Kinyogi Village, Sugumeriga Location, Chepalungu Sub-county.
In a statement released on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, the police said the joint team comprising officers from Chepalungu Police Station and National Government Administration Officers conducted the successful raid on October 28, 2025.
“During the operation, the team arrested two suspects who were found in possession of seven litres of Busaa, 240 litres of Kangara, and five litres of Chang’aa. The suspects were taken to Chepalungu Police Station and are scheduled to appear in court today, 29th October 2025, to face charges,” the X post read in part.

Police said the operation is part of ongoing efforts to eliminate the production and sale of illicit alcohol, which poses serious health and security risks to communities.
“The National Police Service continues to intensify its efforts to eradicate illicit alcohol across the country, working closely with local administration and communities to safeguard public health and uphold law and order,” the police said.
This comes a day after police officers in Kisii County destroyed more than 400 litres of Kangara during a major crackdown on illicit brews in Nyamanani Village, Eburi Sub-location, Nyansakia Location.

Illicit brews menace
The officers discovered the illicit brew hidden deep inside a sugarcane plantation, where it had been concealed to evade detection.
During the raid, a person of interest said to be behind the illegal production and distribution of the brew escaped from the scene.
Police are currently pursuing the individual and have launched an intensive manhunt to ensure he is apprehended and brought before the court.
The service emphasised that such operations will continue across the country as part of efforts to safeguard communities from the dangers of unregulated alcohol production and consumption.

During the operation, the team destroyed over 400 litres of Kangara, which had been concealed in a sugarcane plantation,” the police said.
Adding;
“Police officers are currently pursuing the main suspect, who fled the scene, with a view to apprehending and arraigning him. The National Police Service remains steadfast in its commitment to eradicating illicit brews and other harmful substances that pose a threat to public health and safety.”
