A former police station commander has told a court that a police officer accused of murder was at the scene of the shooting deaths of two teenagers seven years ago.
Lucas Ongaya, who was the Pangani station commander when the killings happened, said Sergeant Rashid Ahmed was at the Amal Shopping Complex on March 31, 2017 when the boys were killed. Ongaya was the fourth person to testify in the murder case against Rashid, who is charged in a Kibera High Court with murderinf the two teenagers – Jamal Mohammed and Mohammed Dhair Kheri.
Rashid has denied the charges.
Ongaya told the court that he overheard a conversation between the suspect and the control room in which he was reporting a robbery and shooting incident shortly after 3pm that day.
In the conversation, Rashid said three robbers had confronted a man inside the mall, leading to the shooting of the two, while a third person escaped by running towards St Theresa’s Church near Juja Road. The former OCS, who is now the Njiru cub-county police commander, said he was driven to the scene of the shootings by the duty officer.
On arrival, he said, he found two men lying dead on the ground close to each other and a homemade pistol besides them.
