In a breakthrough, police have dismantled a sophisticated electronics theft racket operating out of Mihang’o in Kayole Sub-County.

The operation was conducted by officers from Embakasi Police Station, who acted swiftly on what they described as actionable intelligence.

In an X statement on Thursday, August 28, 2025, police say the investigation was launched following the theft of an iPhone 15, which was electronically traced to Breeze Point Apartments on Turin Court in Mihang’o.

“A subsequent search of the property uncovered a trove of stolen electronics. Officers moved in and arrested two suspects at the scene. 321 assorted mobile phones, seven laptops, various mobile phone covers, laptop chargers, an LG music system, and two speakers, along with the stolen iPhone 15,” the statement read.

Police believe the location was being used as a storage hub by a wider criminal network dealing in stolen electronic goods. All recovered items have been secured at Embakasi Police Station as investigations continue.

The persons of interest remain in custody and are awaiting processing and arraignment.

The National Police Service credited the success of the operation to effective collaboration between officers and the local community.

“We commend members of the public for providing the crucial information, as well as the swift coordination between the Kayole and Embakasi officers, which led to the successful arrests and recovery,” the official statement read.

The raid highlights growing concerns over organised phone and electronics theft rings in Nairobi’s suburbs. Police have vowed to intensify crackdowns on such syndicates and urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.

Police are now working to determine whether the suspects are linked to other reported thefts across the city.

In the meantime, police are urging consumers to verify the origins of second-hand electronics before making purchases, warning that buying stolen goods helps fuel these underground markets.

Meanwhile, the National Police Service (NPS) has reassured the public of their safety following concerns raised by a local media report on insecurity in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD).

In a press statement issued from the National Police Service Headquarters, the NPS addressed what was described as a “worrying state of insecurity within the Central Business District (CBD) of Nairobi.”

This follows an incident that occurred on Friday, August 22, 2025, at Nanak House.

On Friday, goons broke into city shops and businesses along Kimathi Street in Nairobi’s CBD.

Armed goons broke into their shops in broad daylight and stole items.

Police revealed that one arrest has already been made as investigations are ongoing, and further arrests and progress are expected.

“The National Police Service wishes to assure the public that Nairobi Central Business District remains one of the most secure areas in which to conduct business,” Director Corporate Communication NPS Muchiri Nyaga said.
