A foreign national has been fatally struck by a government vehicle in President William Ruto’s motorcade along Ngong Road, police have confirmed.
The fatal accident occurred as the presidential motorcade was heading to Kibra from Lang’ata constituency.
In a press statement on Thursday, March 13, 2025, the National Police Service (NPS) confirmed that the incident, which occurred at approximately 2 pm near Adams Arcade, involved a government vehicle and resulted in the death of a pedestrian.
“Following a road traffic accident that occurred today at Adams Arcade along Ngong Road involving a government vehicle, which resulted in the death of a pedestrian who is a foreign national, the National Police Service is now handling the matter, and investigations have commenced,” said Muchiri Nyaga, Director of Corporate Communication for the NPS.
Police have urged anyone with information that could assist in the investigation to report to the nearest police station or use the toll-free emergency numbers.
“The National Police Service urges motorists, pedestrians, and all other road users to exercise extreme caution and adhere to traffic rules to prevent accidents,” the statement added.
Thika Road incident
The incident comes just two days after a violent robbery along Thika Highway on March 11, 2025, where a group of rowdy youth attacked motorists and pedestrians after a rally attended by President Ruto.
Videos circulating on social media showed the group blocking sections of the road, forcefully taking personal belongings from motorists and pedestrians.
Some motorists were seen defending themselves with clubs and makeshift weapons against the attackers.

The chaos forced many drivers to divert to alternative routes as warnings circulated online, advising road users to avoid the area.
In a statement on Thursday, March 13, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirmed that at least eight individuals had been arrested in connection with the attacks.
“In response to a disturbing series of attacks and robberies targeting innocent members of the public along Thika Highway on March 11, 2025, police officers have launched a crackdown to apprehend and prosecute those responsible for these criminal acts and ensure public safety is restored,” DCI stated.
DCI identified one of the arrested individuals as John Junior Oginga, who was armed with a knife when he attacked and robbed an unsuspecting victim of an Oppo A77S mobile phone valued at Ksh 28,000.
“Oginga was apprehended along Thika Highway and was escorted to Pangani Police Station,” the statement read.
Additionally, seven other individuals—Jared Nyanza, Darlin Lande, Daniel Okombe, Mike Robert, Elvis Otieno, Reagan Omondi, and Mathenge Gachiri—were arrested for robbing motorists and pedestrians in Mathare Area 4.
Police recovered stolen goods, including seven brand-new shirts believed to have been taken during the attacks.
“The suspects were escorted to Muthaiga Police Station. All suspects were processed and subsequently arraigned in court,” DCI added.
