DCI confirms arrest of Cop Shakur

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested two members of the “Fighting Brutality and Impunity” (FBI) group, a movement that was recently formed by a former Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer and a former Kenya Prisons Service (KPS) officer to fight police brutality.
DCI, in a statement issued via social media on the night of Wednesday, July 30, 2025, said that the duo were arrested on suspicion of terrorism-related activities.
According to the anti-crime agency, Patrick Nyambaka Osoi, a founding member of the movement, was apprehended in a covert operation along Lang’ata Road.
Terrorism charges
He was then arraigned on Wednesday, July 30, at the Kahawa Law Courts, where he faced charges under the Prevention of Terrorism Act, 2012.
In addition to terrorism-related charges, Osoi is also accused of being in possession of a firearm without a valid license.
He is currently being held at Muthaiga Police Station, awaiting a court decision on whether he will remain in custody.
“Detectives have arrested Patrick Nyambaka Osoi, a founding member of the Fighting Brutality and Impunity movement (FBI), during a well-coordinated operation along Lang’ata Road. Osoi was today arraigned at the Kahawa Law Courts, where he faced charges under the Prevention of Terrorism Act, 2012, and for being in possession of a firearm, among other offences. He is currently being held at Muthaiga Police Station, pending a court ruling on custodial orders scheduled for tomorrow, July 31, 2025,” DCI stated.
Cop Shakur’s arrest
In a separate but related arrest, Jackson Kuria Kihara, popularly known as Cop Shakur, was arrested in Kahawa West.
The detectives say Kihara was found in possession of a red beret bearing the emblem of the FBI movement—a symbol investigators believe could be linked to radical mobilisation.
He is expected to appear before the Kahawa Law Courts on Thursday, July 31, 2025.
“In a related development, Jackson Kuria Kihara, alias Cop Shakur, was also arrested in Kahawa West in connection with the same offences. At the time of arrest, he was found in possession of a red beret bearing the ‘FBI’ symbol. Kihara will be arraigned at the Kahawa Law Courts tomorrow, July 31, 2025,” the statement read.
