Bandits stage an ambush, kill police reservists in overnight attack in Meru
Residents in Meru are living in fear of losing their livestock after bandits staged a daring attack, making away with hundreds of their animals.
The incidents unfolded across multiple villages on Friday night, November 28, 2025, leaving residents shaken and security agencies stretched.
Confirming the incident on Saturday, November 29, 2025, Meru County Commissioner Jacob Ouma stated that more officers had been deployed to flush out the bandits from their hideouts after the daring night attack across multiple villages.
“Maafisa bado wanaendelea kuhakikisha ya kwamba wale majambazi wamepambana nao na mifugo yote imerudi,” Ouma stated following the killing of two police reservists and one herder.

Patrols
Following the attack, Ouma announced that the security officers would intensify patrols in the area in collaboration with the locals to tame the re-emergence of cattle rustling.
“Tutaongeza idadi ya askari katika eneo lile na pia tutaongeza doria za mchana,” Ouma stated.
However, Igembe Central Member of Parliament Dan Kiili pointed an accusing finger at the government for failing to act and save the area residents from the wave of cattle rustling
“Ivi sasa wezi wa mifugo wanakuja kwa idadi zaidi ya mia wakiwa wamejipanga na wakona silaha. Tunashida tukiimba operation, kwani ni nini serikali imekosa, ni vifaa haina ama ni taarifa haina?” Kiili posed.

His sentiments were echoed by the locals, who called on the national government to send immediate intervention.
