4 persons of interest arrested over illicit brew
Police in Tharaka Nithi Sub County have arrested four persons of interest in possession of two hundred litres of illicit brew.
In a statement on Saturday, July 12, 2025, the National Police Service (NPS) revealed that the persons were also in possession of 31 rolls of bhang.
This is following an operation targeting illicit brews and psychotropic substances conducted by a multi-agency team in Kibunga Market on July 11, 2025.
“During the operation, four suspects were arrested for possession of over 200 litres of illicit brew and 31 rolls of bhang,” read the statement in part.

Further, the NPS stated that the four persons of interest were placed in police custody, pending processing and arraignment in court.
Similarly, the agency has assured the public that operations to eradicate the manufacture, distribution, and consumption of illicit alcohol and other prohibited substances will continue countrywide.
“We urge the public to support the ongoing crackdown by reporting suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies,” NPS said.

600 brooms of bhang
This comes a week after police in Narok East Sub-County seized 600 brooms of cannabis sativa (bhang) following a dramatic high-speed chase on the evening of July 1, 2025.
In a statement released on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, the National Police Service announced that officers from Ntulele Police Station had intercepted a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado suspected of transporting narcotics from Kisii to Nairobi.
“The driver ignored police orders to stop, prompting a high-speed chase along the Narok–Mai Mahiu Highway. The vehicle was later found abandoned along the Nairegie Enkare feeder road after developing mechanical problems. Two occupants fled into nearby maize plantations and are still at large,” read the statement in part.
Further, the NPS revealed that the vehicle and drugs are now secured at Ntulele Police Station as investigations continue.
The National Police Service commended the public for their vigilance and urged continued cooperation in the fight against drug trafficking.
