4 more persons of interest arrested in Nyamira burial assault case

Detectives have apprehended four more persons of interest in connection with the shocking assault of a widow during her estranged husband’s burial in the Kiambere area, Mwongorisi Sub-Location, Nyamira County.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirmed the arrests on Saturday, March 29, 2025, as efforts intensified to bring all those involved in the disturbing incident to justice.
According to the DCI, one of the individuals was apprehended in Nyamira Township Sub-location, while the other three were traced to a hideout in the Kenyenya area of Bogichora location.
The persons of interest are currently in police custody and are undergoing processing ahead of their court appearance.
“Detectives have arrested four additional persons of interest in the ongoing investigation into the assault of a woman during her estranged husband’s burial in Nyamira County.
“A 46-year-old man was apprehended in Nyamira Township Sub-location, while his three accomplices, aged 41, 39, and 26, were trailed down and arrested from their hideout in the Kenyenya area of Bogichora Location,” DCI stated.
The assault, which occurred during the burial ceremony of the widow’s estranged husband, has sparked outrage and condemnation from the public. Authorities have been under pressure to act and ensure that all individuals linked to the attack are held accountable.
“The quartet is currently in police custody undergoing processing ahead of their court appearance. Meanwhile, detectives are widening their search to apprehend more persons of interest linked to this disturbing incident,” DCI added.
The disturbing incident, captured on video and widely shared on social media, took place on Friday, March 21, 2025.

The latest comes barely a week after three individuals were arrested and arraigned in court.
In a statement issued by the National Police Service (NPS) on Monday, March 24, 2025, the footage depicts a woman being assaulted before being forced into her late husband’s grave.
“The National Police Service has noted with utmost concern a disturbing video circulating on social media, which shows a woman being physically assaulted at what is believed to be a burial ceremony. This incident is not only unfortunate but also deeply regrettable, as it is devoid of civility and basic human dignity,” NPS stated.
Adding;
“Following inquiries regarding this troubling footage, the National Police Service confirms that the incident occurred on Friday, 21 March 2025, in Kiambere area, Mwongorisi Sub-Location of Nyamira County.”
The police also confirmed that the widow had been found and was safe. They thanked members of the public for providing crucial information that aided in the arrests. The NPS reassured the public of its commitment to upholding law and order, emphasizing that such acts of violence would not be tolerated.
“The victim has since been located, and three suspects were swiftly arrested. They remain in custody, pending processing and arraignment. We wish to thank members of the public for providing crucial information, which led to these arrests. As a Service, we remain committed to upholding law and order,” NPS stated.
