Global AfroPop artiste Yemi Alade has finally blessed her fans with the highly anticipated remix of her 2022 song Baddie, featuring Kenyan rapper Femi One.

The song, which also features renowned Jamaican artiste Konshens, was released on YouTube on Wednesday, January 16, 2025.

So far, it has amassed over twenty thousand views on the platform.

The original version of ‘Baddie’ an upbeat dancehall track, was one of her best-selling songs, released just days before she surprised fans with her album ‘The African Baddie’ in January 2023.

Baddie is a seamless blend of the dancehall genre, and the newly released remix offers a more metallic twist to the original.

Kenyans flood to stream

According to comments on the song, Kenyans are ecstatic to see the songstress featuring Femi One, describing the collaboration as a perfect combo, especially with the inclusion of the much-loved Konshens.

In the video, Femi One’s part comes last, and she appears in orchestrated glares and blinking shots, with cartoonish edits depicting a futuristic world beneath her.

Her scenes are shot in various settings, including an immaculate white studio and a high-tech city where sleek cars like Teslas roll by.

She delivers her verses in bold Sheng, hyping herself as a proud queen from East Nairobi and the ruling “baddie”.

Jealousy ni disease. Hapa hatucomplain inago vile inapangwa. Baddie na mabanda. Baddie toka East na nawakimbiza mtaa. Street wanazidi na madam. Tunamarinate baby boy na Kagin. You know you wanna make me sit down.”

Album Feature

While the feature seems glamorous for the Grammy-winning artiste, it isn’t the first time Yemi Alade has collaborated with the ‘Utawezana’ crooner.

In July of last year, the Nigerian songstress thrilled Kenyans when she brought Femi One on board for her 10th studio album release.

The album, titled Rebel Queen, features 16 tracks with collaborations from artists across the globe, including Jamaican dancehall star Konshens, reggae icon Ziggy Marley, and Kenyan rapper Femi One on the track Baddie Remix.

Yemi also collaborated with legendary Beninese singer Angelique Kidjo on the track African Woman and Congolese star Innoss’B on Lipeka.

The second single off the new album, Peace & Love, features the eight-time Grammy-winning Ziggy Marley.
