Veteran singer Wahu Kagwi has come under sharp criticism after she shared a post suggesting that a university degree should not be a requirement for candidates seeking elective seats.

Taking to her official Instagram account, the mother of two stated that the university degree debate is an old-school mentality that needs to be scraped arguing that one can be a good leader without a degree.

“We are out here making it a big deal of whether or not a politician went to university or not as a qualification to run for office, yet so many of those who are vying have known corruption cases. We need to reprioritise. A university degree is not proof of leadership acumen. This is a very old-school mentality. (According to me -and I do have a right to voice my opinion).” she wrote.

While stating that people should focus on honesty, integrity, diligence, and track records, the ‘sweet love’ hit maker further defended that there are so many smart people who have dropped out of school.

“Honesty, integrity, diligence, and a track record of good leadership in whichever sector one is involved in, these are some of the things I would love to see us focus on. #mytwocents,” she added.

Fans ridicule Wahu

Her post elicited mixed reactions from Kenyans who castigated her for defending Nairobi gubernatorial candidate Johnson Sakaja.

In a quick rejoinder, the artiste defended herself disassociating herself from the claims.

“This is not even about Sakaja fam, this requirement just doesn’t add up, if you really think it through,” she stated.

Ms Kagwi was forced to delete her post following the criticism she received from a section of fans.
