VJ Patelo dismisses claims of living a life handed to them on a silver platter

Kenyan entertainer Stanley, popularly known as VJ Patelo, has spoken out strongly against claims that he and his wife Diana have had their success handed to them without effort, insisting that their journey has been built on struggle, hard work, and faith.
Patelo, who has become a familiar face in the entertainment scene following his viral wedding, said his life and achievements have been the result of persistence and resilience, not privilege.
Speaking during an interview with a local TV station on Friday, August 8, 2025, the Arbantone singer noted that while his position in the limelight may inspire young people in the neighbourhood, every individual has their own path, struggles, and responsibilities.
He urged Kenyans to focus on their own ventures and mind their own business rather than speculating about how others earn a living.
“Yes, it is true that right now I inspire young people in the neighbourhood, and I live among older folks as well, but everyone has their own responsibilities and their own schedule. Everyone was born in their own unique way, and what I can say is that a person should continue running their business and mind their own affairs, because you cannot know the exact work I do that earns me money,” Patelo said.

He explained that the work sustaining him is not as simple as it may appear from the outside and that his and Diana’s progress has come after years of overcoming obstacles.
He credited God for guiding their journey, saying only He knows the difficulties they have faced and the reasons they occupy their current space in the public eye.
“You might think it is simple and easy, but it is not like that at all. We have struggled to get to where we are. Only God knows our story and where we have come from, and that is why He also knows the reason why it is us who are in the limelight right now,” he added.
Struggles
Patelo then described life as a constant struggle and called on young people to support one another instead of engaging in gossip or belittling others.
He condemned the culture of speaking ill of fellow youth, urging instead for unity and mutual encouragement.
According to him, disagreements and petty rivalries among young people hold back progress, and abandoning such habits would create a stronger, more supportive community.
“Life is all about struggle, and people should help each other, especially youths supporting fellow youths. Speaking badly about someone or looking down on them is not right, that is foolishness. If someone does not please you, just leave them alone. Above all, as young people, we should stop opposing each other for no reason,” Pateli said.
