Steve Massage clarifies Shalkido only raised a lover’s child, not his own

As the family of late Gengetone artiste Shalkido continues with burial preparations, TikToker Steve Wakaniaru, alias Steve Massage, has spoken out to clarify claims surrounding the musician’s alleged child, insisting that the young one often mentioned by the artiste was not biologically his.
Speaking in a TikTok live on Monday, October 13, 2025, a day after he joined Shalkido’s family for a burial meeting, the Kasarani masseuse said he felt compelled to set the record straight after several women took to TikTok claiming to have had a child with the fallen singer.
He described the claims as misleading and disrespectful to the family, warning that those spreading such falsehoods risk facing legal action.
“The child Shalkido used to talk about was not biologically his. He had taken in a woman who already had a child, that is the truth of the matter,” the TikToker said.

He explained that Shalkido, whose real name was Paul Koigi Mungai, had been in a relationship with a woman who already had a child, and that he had merely embraced the child as his own out of love and compassion.
Steve noted that this was the reason no woman has stepped forward to claim child support following the artiste’s death.
“That is why the lady has not come out to claim that she had Shalkido’s child. That woman knows very well that Shalkido found her with a baby, and he still loved her together with the child.”
He maintained that those purporting to have Shalkido’s child should undergo DNA tests to prove their claims, warning that any false accusers would be required to pay damages to the artiste’s grandmother, who raised him.
“Now, these other people I have seen on TikTok claiming they had Shalkido’s child, I want them to come out and take DNA tests. If the baby is truly his, we will support the child. But if it is false claims and people are trying to benefit from his death and his name when he is not here to defend himself, then they will have to pay damages to his grandmother, who raised him,” Steve said.
Steve emphasised that the family would not allow anyone to exploit Shalkido’s death or tarnish his name for social media attention or financial gain.
“She is the one who knows the pain of bringing him up, and we will not allow anyone to tarnish his name,” he stated.
The clarifications come at a time when the family is still appealing for public support through a paybill to help fund the singer’s burial, which has drawn immense sympathy from fans and fellow artistes.
Shalkido, a former member of the popular Gengetone group Sailors Gang, tragically lost his life on Monday, October 6, 2025, following a grisly motorbike accident along Thika Road.
The artiste, who had been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Kenyatta University Referral Hospital with severe head injuries and a broken leg, was confirmed dead at 6:30 p.m. by his family.
Shalkido rose to fame as part of Sailors Gang, the group behind Gengetone anthems such as Wamlambez and Wainame, before pursuing a solo career.
