Victor Wanyama has been appointed to the FIFPRO Global Player Council, marking a major milestone in his football career.

The former Harambee Stars captain will now work alongside 37 elite footballers from across the world in shaping the future of the game at an international level.

The announcement drew celebrations from his wife, actress and media personality Serah Teshna, who praised him for flying the Kenyan flag high. In her message, she congratulated Wanyama and described the appointment as a proud win for the country.

“Aah Baba watoto! Huge congratulations to you, Victor Wanyama, for being appointed to the FIFPRO Global Player Council. Joining 37 elite footballers in shaping the future of the game worldwide. What a win for Kenya! The world is your oyster. It only gets better. So proud of you,” she wrote on Instagram on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.

A global platform for Kenyan football

FIFPRO is the worldwide representative organisation for professional footballers, bringing together players to address issues such as welfare, rights, and the development of the game.

Wanyama’s selection to the Global Player Council puts him in a unique position to influence decisions that will affect football both in Africa and globally.

The appointment is seen as a recognition of Wanyama’s long career and his impact on the game. Over the years, he has played at the highest levels, including in the English Premier League with Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur, and currently continues his career in Major League Soccer (MLS) with CF Montréal.

For many in Kenya, his new role is not only a personal achievement but also a moment of pride for the country’s football community.

Joining the council means Wanyama has become part of a select group of players tasked with ensuring that footballers’ voices are heard in decisions that shape the sport’s future.

Serah Teshna’s words also highlight the significance of the appointment beyond football, as it inspires young players across the country to believe in their potential to make an impact internationally.

Victor Wanyama’s new position on the FIFPRO Global Player Council is expected to give him the platform to contribute to policy discussions, champion player welfare, and represent African voices on the global stage.
