YouTuber Presenter Kai has sparked online debate after claiming that many women miss out on good men by choosing to walk away from those who are not financially well-off.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, Kai expressed that many women fail to understand that poverty is not permanent and can eventually end and suggested that they should never rush to make decisions based solely on a man’s financial situation.

“Baadhi ya wanawake hupoteza wanaume sahihi kwa kudhani kuwa umaskini unadumu milele,” loosely translated as, “Some women miss out on the right men by believing that poverty lasts forever.”

The popular street interviewer’s post quickly sparked a wave of reactions on Facebook, as many netizens rushed to share their thoughts on the matter.

Some agreed with him, while others pointed out that, in some cases, poverty might never end, and women could end up stuck in it.

At the same time, many others read deeper meanings into his words, questioning whether he was speaking from personal experience, while others criticised him, arguing that men should be financially stable before thinking about marriage.

Here are some of those comments.

@Sarah Wambui said: “I completely agree with Kai! Financial struggles are often temporary, and a real man’s character is what matters most. We shouldn’t dismiss potential partners just because they’re not rich right now. Sometimes, love and ambition are all it takes!”

@John Karanja: “While I understand Kai’s point, what if the man never improves financially? Poverty doesn’t always go away, and as women, we want security, not just dreams of a better future. It’s a tough one.”

@Grace 254: “I feel like Kai might be talking from personal experience. Does he have a story he’s not telling us? Anyway, women need to be more open-minded, but we also can’t afford to settle for someone who’s not going anywhere.”

@Kevin Otieno: “I agree with the part about not judging someone based on their current financial status. But let’s be real—men should have some kind of financial stability before considering marriage. What’s wrong with wanting security?”

@Njeri Habibty: “Kai’s opinion makes sense in theory, but let’s be honest—most of us are looking for someone who can provide, not just talk about potential. I get the sentiment, but some women can’t afford to wait around for a man’s ‘someday’ to materialise.”

@Maggie Wairimu said: “I love Kai’s perspective! Too often, we judge based on money. But what about the man who’s ambitious and hardworking, even if he’s not rich yet”

@Jared Wa Coast said: “A man’s financial readiness does matter in a relationship, especially when building a future.”

Wedding

Kai’s remarks have come just weeks after tying the knot with his long-time partner, Diana Yegon, in a colourful ceremony that made headlines.

The couple’s wedding journey kicked off with a traditional engagement ceremony in Nakuru County on April 12, 2025, followed by a vibrant white wedding on April 19 at Kitsoeni Primary Grounds in Kilifi South.

The event was full of flair, with Kai stepping out in a mint green suit while Diana dazzled in a flowing white gown, drawing praise for her Cinderella-like look.

The star-studded celebration was attended by high-profile guests, including Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro and Mumias East MP Peter Salasya. The newlyweds thrilled guests with a heartfelt dance, while Diana’s solo performance at the reception stole the show.
