Omtatah celebrates artist who captured him in cartoon art

Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah has showered praise on a young Kenyan artist who drew a striking cartoon portrait of him, describing the piece as powerful and meaningful.
In a statement shared via his X account on Saturday, July 19, 2025, Omtatah expressed deep appreciation to the artist known as @pencilartsam.
“I am deeply honoured @pencilartsam. Your gift as an artist is evident, not just in the skill of your hands, but in the heart behind your work. Thank you for using your talent to speak, to inspire, and to remind us all that in every fight for what is right, there is beauty and purpose,” the senator wrote.
He encouraged the artist to continue creating bold work that challenges and inspires.
“Keep creating. Keep challenging. Keep inspiring,” Omtatah added.
The cartoon art, which captured Omtatah in a defiant and powerful pose, was later used by the senator to share one of his famous quotes.
“If we don’t fight for the Constitution today, we will be forced to fight for our freedom tomorrow.”

The gesture left the artist excited and emotional. Sharing his joy on social media, “He used my art, guys!” is a proud moment for the creative who has been steadily gaining recognition for his talent.
The incident reflects a growing trend in Kenya where artists are using their talents to either celebrate or critique leadership.
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) CS William Kabogo also recently joined the conversation by appreciating a humorous caricature of himself.
In a post shared on his official X account, Kabogo posted a cartoon drawing of himself based on a now-viral photo that circulated online in May 2025. The photo showed the CS dressed in a unique fashion ensemble: a white shirt and tie, khaki trousers, brightly striped socks, and tan safari boots.
The unusual outfit sparked endless jokes and memes across the internet, but instead of brushing it off, Kabogo leaned into the moment.
“From viral to visual, what began as social media banter has now been immortalised in a beautiful, hilarious caricature, courtesy of a brilliant young Kenyan creative! When the internet hands you memes, turn them into masterpieces,” Kabogo said.
He went on to reflect on the value of Kenya’s growing digital space, not just in terms of technology and infrastructure but also in its rich cultural and artistic expression.
“This artwork is proof that our digital economy isn’t just about tech and infrastructure; it’s also about talent, culture and bold expression. Thank you for the gift and the laughs!” he added.
