Oga Obinna visits ailing Meru politician Michael Makarina in hospital
By Steve Ireri, July 14, 2025Comedian and media personality Oga Obinna has paid a courtesy visit to ailing Meru politician Michael Makarina at his hospital bed, where he expressed concern after having seen distressing images of the former MCA circulating online.
Obinna, who visited the politician on Monday, July 14, 2025, expressed shock over the viral images that showed him looking frail and reassured Makarina that he looked far stronger in person.
“So we are here with Honourable Makarina, and he is getting better. I saw pictures of you online and honestly thought you had passed away, my brother. I came by to say hello because we were just with you the other day, and then I saw those pictures of you in the hospital,” Obinna said.
He told him that he had come to greet him in person and invite him to his show, ‘Obinna Live’.
Obinna said that Makarina should consider shifting focus from online political banter and join him on his show for more impactful conversations.
He also urged the former MCA to bring along Interior Deputy President Kithure Kindiki to the show so that the two could have a meaningful conversation about Mount Kenya’s political state, especially now that he had already interviewed former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
“Finish up with this hospital situation and come over to the Obinna Show and light it up. Leave these Facebook and TikTok politics alone and come light up the show. Also, bring Kindiki with you when you come—I want to talk to him and hear how things are going in the Mt Kenya region because I have already spoken with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. And by the way, I can see you are already healed. I cannot even tell you ‘get well soon’ because you are clearly already fine. You have been here for just three days,” Obinna said warmly, adding that the politician’s recovery was evident.

Makarina’s health journey
The hospital visit came a day after Makarina had opened up about his health journey through an emotional post.
In the post shared on Facebook on Sunday, July 13, 2025, he recounted his first encounter with serious illness back in 2010 after an accident that left him wheelchair-bound.
“Before 2010, I had never known what a hospital bed felt like. I never imagined a time would come when seeing a doctor would become part of my routine life. Then came the accident in 2010, a moment that changed everything.”
Makarina revealed that before 2010, he had never imagined that seeing a hospital bed or interacting with doctors would become a constant part of his life. The 2010 accident, he said, changed everything and forced him into a new reality which he did not sign up for, but which he chose to embrace with strength and purpose.
“Life as I knew it shifted in a flash. I found myself in a wheelchair, facing a new reality I hadn’t signed up for, but I made a choice & a powerful one. I chose to accept my situation. I chose to love myself, wheelchair and all. I chose to live, to inspire, and to keep fighting.”
He said that although he now finds himself in a hospital bed again, he has not given up, and continues to remain hopeful and grounded in faith. He noted that the same God who had sustained him through his journey in a wheelchair is still on the throne and that he draws strength from knowing that his life still carries meaning.
“Today, as I lie on this hospital bed once again, I remain encouraged & hopeful. Because the same God who has carried me all these years, who held my hand through the storm, who gave me purpose beyond pain is still on the throne.”
Makarina added that he had accepted his situation and chose to live, love himself and his wheelchair, and find inspiration in the life he still has.
He also had a strong word for those mocking or celebrating his hospitalisation, cautioning them that life can change in an instant and that no one is immune to life’s unpredictable turns.
“What you wish for others could one day knock at your door. Let us be kind, compassionate, and above all let us wish others well, especially when it comes to matters of health. Because nothing in this world is more precious than being healthy, alive and peace of mind.”
