Oga Obinna celebrates reaching 1M followers on Instagram

Popular media personality and content creator Steve Thompson Maghana, also known as Oga Obinna, is in a celebratory mood after hitting a major digital milestone: 1 million followers on Instagram.

Taking to his Instagram page with his signature energy and excitement on Saturday, July 26, 2025, Obinna couldn’t hide his joy, thanking fans for their unwavering support.

“Thank you. We have hit a million on Instagram. It had taken long, but now we are here,” he said.

Obinna was quick to point out that the growth was organic, attributing the achievement to consistency, hard work, and divine favour.

Ndio tunaingia sasa. All eyes on me, kama 2PAC. We did it organically,” he said. If I did it, you can. We don’t stop. God first.”

But the celebration didn’t end there. The multi-talented entertainer used the moment to rally his followers toward the next frontier, YouTube and Facebook.

He urged fans to help push his multiple YouTube channels, Obinna TV, Obinna TV Extra, and The ObinnaZ na Zabe, to 1 million subscribers before December.

He also reminded his audience about his new Facebook page, OgaObinna, with the goal of reaching the million mark there as well.

Obinna on job creation

This comes a week after he revealed that he has 34 employees on his payroll, and he spends Ksh1 million each month to pay their salaries.

Obinna emphasised that art has the potential to create several job opportunities, as seen in his case.

His team includes a bodyguard, a manager, a videographer, and several others. He addressed critics who question why he often travels with his employees, explaining that he is employing them.

“I employ roughly 34 people who are on a monthly salary exceeding KSh 1 million. This amount is exclusive of production and logistics costs. Even in months when I don’t profit, I dig into my own pocket to ensure my staff is paid, often foregoing my own salary. I am directly supporting 34 families.”

In addition to his own employees, Obinna explained how he contributes to other businesses within the industry.

“For example, when I hire a camera, a location, and other equipment for a music video, it creates jobs for around 50 people. This includes producers, directors of photography, lighting technicians, set designers, transportation, makeup artists, costume designers, dancers, and extras. If I hire TikTokers for dance challenges, the number of people involved can easily reach 50,” he elaborated.
