Financial appeal

His death comes after the family had sought financial support from the public to facilitate his bone marrow transplant in India.

“Peter Shire urgently needs a bone marrow transplant in India after multiple myeloma severely affected his spine and mobility. He has already undergone two spinal surgeries in Kenya, but he still requires this life-saving treatment, which costs Ksh 6 million (USD 46,500). We appeal for your support; every contribution counts. Thank you, and God bless you, “Tunya’s medical appeal post read.

Understanding multiple myeloma

Multiple myeloma is a cancer of plasma cells, a type of white blood cell that normally produces antibodies to fight infection. In this disease, these plasma cells become abnormal, multiply uncontrollably, and accumulate in the bone marrow, potentially leading to bone damage and other complications.

Anaemia, fatigue, and bone pain are common symptoms, though it can be asymptomatic at first.
