Musical educator turned political activist Kasmuel McOure has opened up about his ongoing battle with mental health, particularly during March, which he describes as a difficult period.

In an Instagram post shared on Monday, March 31, 2025, McOure uploaded a video of himself training vigorously at the gym. The routine, which included burning 1,000 calories during a spin class followed by rounds of boxing, he said serves as his way of coping with mental struggles.

“March has always been a dark month for me. For the past two years, I’ve lost friends, faced major transitions, and endured deep mental anguish. Today was no different. But instead of sinking, I got on the bike; 1,000 calories at spin class for clarity, then a few rounds of boxing. This is how I stay sane. Lift heavy. Push your heart to its limits. Defy gravity at every chance,” McOure shared.

Mental health struggles

McOure’s openness about his mental health challenges is not new. On October 11, 2024, during World Mental Health Day, he encouraged those struggling with their mental well-being to remain resilient, noting that improvement requires time, self-awareness, and support from the community.

“To anyone struggling with their mental health, hang in there. It gets better with time, self-awareness, and a loving community,” he said.

The political firebrand further emphasized the importance of taking responsibility for one’s happiness and wellness rather than relying on external sources. According to McOure, cultivating inner strength and maintaining a vision of better days is essential for healing.

“Do not outsource happiness and wellness. Work on it from within, with a clear picture of what good people/days look like, even when it doesn’t feel like it,” he advised.

He also highlighted foundational aspects necessary for maintaining physical, mental, and spiritual well-being, such as nutrition, exercise, water, sunlight, temperance, air, rest, and faith.

The outspoken activist’s mental health revelations came shortly after he faced criticism for attending a private meeting with opposition leader Raila Odinga on October 8, 2024. Addressing the backlash, McOure defended his decision, reiterating his commitment to transparency and his belief in Odinga’s potential to bring about meaningful change.

“You can accuse me of many things, but not of lacking transparency; on my concerns about the movement, certain individuals within it, or my process of consultation,” McOure stated.
