Jovial announces break to recover after difficult delivery

Kenyan singer Julliet Miriam Ayub, alias Jovial, has announced that she is taking a break from social media, just days after welcoming her newborn son.

In an update shared on her Instagram page on Sunday, August 10, 2025, the Jeraha hitmaker opened up about her challenging childbirth experience, revealing that she endured eight hours of prolonged labour, during which she reached nine centimetres of dilation, before undergoing a Caesarean section.

She described the ordeal as physically and emotionally draining, leaving her feeling broken and traumatised.

Jovial explained that she needs time to embark on a personal healing journey and has chosen to do so away from the public eye. She assured her fans that she still intends to release new music, as it remains her passion, but emphasised that she will be keeping a low profile while she recovers.

The singer also expressed gratitude to her supporters for their love and understanding during this period.

“I’m taking a break… a break from social media. My body is completely broken, broken into small pieces, and I don’t know how to put the pieces back. Eight hours of prolonged labour and still went under the knife. Nine centimetres dilated for eight hours. I’m still traumatised, you can even see it on my face. Anyway, God is my strength, and I want to go on this healing journey calmly and quietly. I have some music to release, and I will release it because that’s what I know best. But allow me to go silent while I find myself. Thank you for the love,” she wrote.

Jovial gave birth to a baby boy on Wednesday, August 6, 2025. She shared the joyful news with her fans through adorable photos showing the tiny hand of her newborn. In her post, she expressed gratitude to God and described her son as perfect.

“Aww, my son is so cute. He is perfect. Thank you, Lord, for this gift,” she wrote.

Difficult pregnancy

The announcement comes just weeks after the singer opened up about the struggles she faced during her second pregnancy. In a candid Instagram post on July 21, 2025, Jovial revealed that her first trimester was physically and emotionally exhausting.

She explained that she experienced severe fatigue, nausea, and strong aversions to smells and tastes, which made it hard to take care of herself.

“In my first trimester, I won’t lie, I stayed one week without showering. Those raised in Mombasa, uzuri tunatumiaga maji kwa haja yoyote, so I didn’t smell but yooow! Aibu! In kuoga first trimester, someone had to drag me to the bathroom, and I used to break down like a child,” she shared.

Even brushing her teeth became a struggle. She said the taste of toothpaste triggered her nausea so badly that she had to find other ways to clean her mouth.

“I’d wake up, put on my body spray and change my outfit. Brushing my teeth, kwanza taste ya toothpaste! I hated throwing up because once I do, I’m gonna have a long, horrible day. I had to find ways how I’ll brush my teeth. Kwa sababu kupigwa kimunju nayo ni lazima! Anyway, salt did it for me, na charcoal powder,” she revealed.

Jovial encouraged other expectant mothers who might face similar challenges to try charcoal powder or salt as an alternative to toothpaste.

“Try this if you have issues with toothpaste… kunuka mdomo nayo haibambi!” she advised.

She reminded her fans that pregnancy experiences differ from one woman to another and urged them not to be too hard on themselves.

“What I’m trying to say is take it easy on yourself. Pregnancy is a very difficult journey. Comparing my first pregnancy na hii wuueeeh hii imenitandika proper. If you had it easy, some won’t, and it’s ok,” she said.
