Actress and media personality Jackie Matubia has opened up about the emotional toll of grief following the memory of her late father.

In an Instagram post shared on social media on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, Matubia described how the past two days have left her struggling to function normally, affecting even her ability to care for her children and carry out daily activities.

“Grief is something else… these past two days I’ve barely been able to wake up, to work, or to even be present for my kids. It’s like my whole body just shut down,” she wrote.

The post was prompted after her brother shared a video of their father on social media, which triggered a powerful wave of emotions.

Invisible weight of grief

Matubia reflected on the aspects of grief that are rarely discussed publicly. She emphasised that grief does not always manifest as visible tears or outward sorrow; sometimes it manifests as a complete numbing of the body and mind.

“People don’t talk enough about this side of grief… how it doesn’t always look like crying every day, sometimes it just numbs you completely. You sit there staring, unable to do anything, feeling like you’re frozen in time. That’s where I’ve been,” she shared.

Her post resonates with many who have experienced loss but find it difficult to articulate the emotional paralysis that can come with it. Matubia sheds light on the complexity of mourning and the hidden struggles people endure in silence.

Despite the emotional weight, Matubia also expressed a message of resilience. She reminded herself, and her followers, of the importance of taking life one day at a time.

“But I keep reminding myself one day at a time, one breath at a time. I’m still here, still standing, still breathing,” she wrote, illustrating a quiet determination to navigate grief while continuing to fulfil her responsibilities as a mother and public figure.

Matubia’s openness not only provides a window into her personal healing process but also contributes to a broader conversation about acknowledging and supporting mental and emotional well-being in the wake of loss.

By speaking openly about her struggles, she highlights that grief is not a linear process and that even moments of numbness are part of the journey toward acceptance.
