Actress Jackie Matubia mourns the death of her father

Award-winning actress and content creator Jackie Matubia is in mourning following the death of her father, David Mwangi.
The actress broke the news of her father’s passing in a sudden Instagram post on Monday, June 9, 2025, where she poured out her sorrow, lamenting how painfully untimely his departure had been.
The actress, who starred in Eddie Butita’s short film ‘Dielemma‘, also poured out her anguish, saying she found herself wondering why the heavens had been so quick to take away a parent she held so close to her heart.
“Heaven surely could not wait for you, my father,” Matubia posted, accompanying the words with heartbroken emojis that bled with emotion.
Matubia, who just weeks ago had spoken with pure excitement over her role in the new reality TV show ‘Mommy Club NBO’, also posted a photo of a candle, hauntingly lit halfway, prompting fans to shower her with comforting messages.
While she did not delve deeply into the cause of her father’s demise, some fans gently enquired whether he had been unwell for some time.
In contrast, others wrapped her in words of comfort, reminding her that everything in life unfolds for a reason and that she should take heart even in sorrow.

A great number of fans who were quick to offer condolences included well-known Kenyan celebrities, close friends and fellow public figures who stood in solidarity with her during the trying moment.
Among them was cross-dressing content creator Kelvin Kinuthia, who assured her that they were walking with her through the dark and stormy season while also extending heartfelt condolences to the entire Matubia family.
“Oh no, my condolences to you, Jackie, and your family. Lots of hugs,” Kinuthia commented.
Kate Actress also stepped forward with kind words, urging Matubia to find solace in the knowledge that her father lived a fulfilling and well-spent life and that wherever he is, he watches her with pride.
“May you find comfort in knowing that you did your best, babe, and Dad is proud of you. Rest in peace, Baba Jackie,” Kate commented.
Milly Wa Jesus did not stay silent either, as she reached out with sympathy, describing just how sorry she felt about the unfortunate loss, assuring Jackie that they were all standing firmly with her as she navigated the stormy waters of loss.
“So sorry, Jackie, receive our heartfelt condolences,” Milly added.
Eric Omondi’s estranged girlfriend, Lynne Njihia, also left a message of condolence, simply but lovingly sending her hugs in a show of warmth and shared humanity.
“My condolences, mami,” Lynne commented before adding hugging emojis.
And finally, not to be left unmentioned among the artistes and celebrities who stood shoulder to shoulder with Jackie was MC Jimmie Kajim’s wife, Wambui, who referred to Matubia with heartfelt words filled with softness and sincerity before expressing her sorrow over what fate had unfolded.
“Oh, so sorry, sweetheart,” Wambui posted.
Cancer battle
Jackie’s father’s death comes just months after she courageously shared a never-before-told story online, recounting how her father had been diagnosed with stage four cancer.

The story, which was shared during a family reunion party in June 2024, came as Matubia opened up about how wonderfully her father had loved them and how much she admired his strength and calm despite the devastating diagnosis.
During the same heartfelt gathering, her father revealed that he had since been placed on chemotherapy and remained hopeful that he would recover, boldly pushing back against the widely-held belief that cancer is a certain death sentence.
“Thank you. It is true—cancer is not a death sentence. It all depends on how you walk with your God. I know my God; she knows my God, and my family knows my God. I am healed. There was a time I weighed 47 kilograms—less than a bag of cement—but look, my hair is still intact. If you are going through such a trial, just know there is a God in heaven, a healer. It does not matter what you are facing. There is always God,” her father had said.
