Idah Alisha reflects on early relationship struggles

TV personality and actress Idah Alisha is getting candid about the emotional toll of young relationships.

In a social media post on Friday, August 1, 2025, she wrote, “That living together at a young age traumatised a lot of us. We don’t even wanna see anybody every day.”

Now 33, Idah has since transitioned from her early days on Kenyan television—where she rose to fame as Olive in the hit show Mother-in-Law—to becoming an international host and brand influencer based in the United States.

She travels back to Kenya from time to time, but her base and career have firmly taken root abroad.

Regrets from a rushed marriage

In a 2022 interview with Lynn Ngugi, Idah revealed her regret over getting married at just 21, saying she was too young and influenced by external pressures.

“I was 21. I was out of my mind if you ask me,” she admitted.

Idah described how both her church community and social circle encouraged her to settle down, especially since most of her friends were older and tying the knot themselves.

The man she married, a 28-year-old youth pastor, turned out to be physically, emotionally, and financially abusive.

“There was a voice at the back of my mind telling me I shouldn’t take that step,” she recalled.

Idah confessed she wasn’t truly in love, but rather drawn into what she now describes as trauma bonding.

Both she and her ex-husband had grown up in homes marred by violence, and that shared pain created a false sense of connection.

“He would tell me how his dad was abusive, and I related to him where my dad was the same,” she said.

A new chapter

After enduring years of pain, Idah finally walked away from the marriage.

She credited close friends, especially actress Catherine Kamau (Kate Actress), for supporting her during her darkest moments—including housing her for four months after the separation.

Today, Idah says she is in a much better place thanks to therapy, relocation, and time. Her journey has become a source of strength and inspiration for many, especially young women navigating early relationships and societal pressure.
