Hollywood actress Lupita Nyong’o sent her father Kisumu governor Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o a happy fathers day message.
Lupita, like hundreds of Kenyans took to social media to express their appreciation for their fathers and father figures in their lives on Sunday, June 20.
“I am the daughter of the son of The Long One, who walks on the backs of Elephants and Hippos. I am the daughter of the great one,” Lupita posted on Facebook.
The actress accompanied her Facebook post of appreciation to her father with a picture of the governor hugging her.
“Happy Fathers Day, Daddy. Cherishing the precious few moments I have to just chill out with you and hear your tales. I love you! Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o,” Lupita said.
In January, Lupita laughed off claims by Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala that the film star wasn’t settled on as Kenya’s Tourism ambassador because she was inaccessible to the Kenyan Government.
Balala on Thursday defended the decision to name British model Naomi Campbell as the country’s international tourism ambassador.
During a public event, Balala acknowledged that many Kenyans had questioned why Hollywood actress Lupita Nyong’o had not been picked for the position.
He said Lupita had been unreachable for the last five years.
The Kenyan Oscar-winning actress was proposed by many Kenyans on social media as the perfect choice.
Balala said Naomi Campbell had taken up the role pro bono and that the government was working on the details on how to use her influence to promote tourism.
Taking to her Twitter page Friday, Lupita posted a picture of herself in animated laughter, ostensibly to mock Balala over his claim.
“Me when I hear the Kenyan Ministry of Tourism has been looking for me for fives years. #Imrightherebaby #alternativefacts,” she said, suggesting that the minister had not reached her to discuss the deal.
