Eric Omondi marks 17 years of comedy with message of gratitude to Churchill

Comedian Eric Omondi has taken a moment to reflect on his 17-year journey in the entertainment industry, paying glowing tribute to Daniel Ndambuki, popularly known as Churchill, for the instrumental role he played in shaping his career.
In a post shared on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, Omondi acknowledged that his success on stage was not built in isolation but rooted in the support of the community that believed in him.
He expressed deep gratitude for those who gave him platforms, encouragement, and mentorship throughout his rise to stardom.
“The story 17 years on. As a product of the community that has supported me on stage over the years… I will always use my voice and hands to uplift someone. Forever grateful, @MwalimChurchill,” Omondi wrote on his official X page.
Omondi’s post struck a tone of humility and responsibility, as he pledged to continue using his influence to empower others just as he had been empowered.
He framed his success not as a personal triumph but as the result of collective goodwill and mentorship.

Churchill, a veteran comedian and media personality, is widely credited with nurturing a generation of Kenyan comedians through his iconic Churchill Show.
It was on this stage that Omondi first gained national recognition, quickly becoming a fan favourite for his high-energy skits and satirical humour.
Omondi’s career
Omondi’s journey to becoming one of Kenya’s most beloved comedians was anything but straightforward.
Originally from Kisumu, he initially aimed for a career in news broadcasting and briefly worked as a reporter at a local TV station.
However, his natural talent for comedy, cultivated since his youth, eventually steered him towards the stage.
In 2008, his big break came when veteran comedian Daniel “Churchill” Ndambuki spotted his potential during a university event.

This encounter led to Eric’s debut on the Churchill Live show, where his dynamic and vibrant performances quickly won over audiences nationwide.
With Churchill’s mentorship, Omondi grew into a household name in Kenya and beyond.
He earned multiple accolades, including three consecutive African Entertainment Awards in the United States, recognising him as the continent’s top comedian from 2018 to 2020.
After three seasons on the Churchill Show, Eric ventured out independently, producing his own shows such as Hawayuni and Eric Omondi Untamed.
His influence now stretches internationally, with performances across South Africa, the United States, and Germany.
