Kenyan comedian, screenwriter, and film producer Eddie Butita has shared a touching moment with his mother as he gave her a tour of his studio.

The heartwarming moment, which Butita posted on Instagram on Monday, March 24, 2025, was filled with gratitude and emotion as his mother witnessed firsthand the success of his creative journey.

The video captured Butita guiding his mother through the headquarters of Stage Presence Media (SPM), home to SPM Buzz and SPM Africa Studios.

Butita expressed how deeply moved he was by his mother’s reaction. She acknowledged that her prayers had played a role in his success, reinforcing the power of faith and family support in his journey.

“Today Mum arrived at SPM HQ home of @spmbuzzke @spmafricastudios meaning the things of GOD are big, It was an emotional moment, When she said “you see my prayers” I felt it. I told him everyday that if you pray for me to win, the whole squad wins and that is how powerful your prayers are,” Butita shared.

Comedy

Born Edwin Butita on November 16, 1992, in Kariobangi South, Nairobi, Butita has carved out a niche for himself in Kenya’s entertainment industry. His talents span multiple roles, including comedian, actor, scriptwriter, director, emcee, producer, and businessman.

In a past interview, Butita shared that his love for performance began in high school at Butere High School in Kakamega County, where he actively participated in drama and music festivals. After completing his secondary education, he pursued a course in graphic design, blending his artistic creativity with technical skills.

His big break came in 2010 when he made his professional debut on Churchill Show, Kenya’s leading comedy platform hosted by Daniel Ndambuki, popularly known as Churchill.

The Upshaws

One of his most significant career milestones came when he was involved in directing and translating the Swahili version of the Netflix series The Upshaws. This achievement positioned him on the international stage, making history as the first Swahili comedy adaptation on the platform.

In April 2021, Butita launched Stage Presence Media (SPM Buzz), a creative hub dedicated to nurturing talent and producing diverse media content.

In 2024, he reached another career peak when he accompanied President William Ruto on a state visit to the United States. During this trip, he had an encounter with American television icon Steve Harvey, who revealed that he had watched Butita’s performances on YouTube.

Additionally, Butita has made strides in film and television, creating and directing A Nurse Toto, a local comedy series.
