The inferno
Mjini FM temporarily suspended its broadcasting services after the fire gutted the studio and destroyed key equipment.
The fire broke out on Friday, January 12, 2024.
Sallam SK Mendez, who is also the radio station’s Executive Director, said no casualties had been reported when he issued a statement following the fire outbreak.
“We are cooperating with authorities to establish the causes of the fire,” Mendez said.
“We understand the importance of Mjini FM in our community, and we are ready to rebuild and resume our normal activities as soon as possible,” he added.
Mendez launched Mjini FM in December 2022.
It was reported that he fell out with Diamond Platnumz after he started his own radio station as it competed with Wasafi FM.
Mendez no longer accompanies Diamond on his music tours as before.
Neither Diamond nor Mendez have publicly confirmed that they have indeed parted ways.
Diamond has been managed by at least three managers; Mendez, Babu Tale and Mkubwa Fella.
