Daddy Owen admits social media exposure of family life is something he now regrets

Gospel singer Daddy Owen has opened up about the personal lessons he has learned from sharing his family life on social media, admitting that, in hindsight, some of the exposure is something he now regrets.
Speaking during an interview with Alex Mwakideu on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, he acknowledged the value of social media but emphasised that being online is a choice, and sharing personal moments inevitably comes with consequences.
“There are many families that are not on social media. I regret having exposed my family life online, but I am not saying being on social media is bad; it is a choice,” he said.
He noted that social media often amplifies scrutiny, with people quick to judge and comment on private matters.
“I have noticed that people on social media these days can be quick to criticise, commenting on everything from your appearance to your personal relationships.”

Over time, he has witnessed countless instances of fans and followers making assumptions or passing judgment on aspects of his life, from relationships to family affairs.
Despite this, Daddy Owen emphasised that such online chatter does not affect him because he has faced far greater challenges in life, long before social media even existed.
“We have been through so much that these comments feel insignificant. The experiences we faced in life, even before social media existed, prepared us for challenges and made us resilient.”
Reflecting on his upbringing, he explained that real-life struggles prepared him for public scrutiny, teaching him resilience and the ability to remain unbothered.
He highlighted that while some celebrities might be easily shamed or influenced by online comments, his experiences have made him steadfast.
According to him, the lessons learned from facing difficulties in real life are far more profound than the temporary judgment from strangers online.
“Back then, when someone confronted you, it was real and direct, face to face, and you knew they meant it. I am one of the most unbothered celebrities; there is nothing anyone can say to shame me,” he said.
Daddy Owen also revealed that social media can sometimes distort reality, with people drawing conclusions about situations without understanding the full context.
He said that while he initially shared family moments with good intentions, the constant online commentary has taught him to value privacy and discernment more carefully.
“People cannot shame the shameless. Life’s tough experiences made me strong, and nothing online can change that.”
