Charisma credits his time in Le Band for the skills he applies as a solo artiste
By Steve Ireri, August 26, 2025Singer Fidel Eli Shammah Omusula, also known as Charisma, has revealed that his tenure in the popular boy band Le Band played a pivotal role in shaping the skills and artistry he now applies in his solo career.
Speaking during an interview with Shiksha Arora on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, Charisma, who was part of Le Band from its inception, said that being in the group taught him valuable lessons about collaboration, performance, and navigating the music industry.
“Being in the group was incredibly important to me because I was fairly young and still learning. There were so many mistakes and experiences that shaped me, and I learnt a lot through that journey,” he said.
The artiste highlighted that leaving the group and pursuing a solo career in 2019 allowed him to apply those lessons and showcase a more refined version of himself.
“After deciding to go solo, I agree that I am better now. I think the reason people probably see the best version of me now is because I am older and I have gained so much,” he added.
During his time with Le Band, Charisma and his colleagues released hits such as Number 1 and Leo, earning the group widespread recognition across East Africa.
However, the transition to a solo career enabled Charisma to explore his own style and artistic vision, as well as develop the ability to multitask and manage his career independently.
Reflecting on this journey, he emphasised the importance of learning from one’s past experiences.
He said the challenges and successes in Le Band were instrumental in preparing him for the demands of being a solo artiste, allowing him to navigate the industry with greater confidence and maturity.
“There are a lot of things and mistakes we made, and I learnt through that experience. I think the reason why people probably see the best version of me now that I am a solo artiste is because I am older and I have gained so much,” he added.
Biggest achievement
In the same interview, the ‘Sina Noma’ crooner also reflected on what he considers his biggest achievement to date, saying it’s his ability to remain grounded despite the pressures of fame.
He explained that maintaining humility and staying true to oneself is a rare accomplishment in the entertainment industry, where public scrutiny and celebrity lifestyles often challenge personal values.
“I think my biggest achievement in life so far, I would say, is that I have been able to stay grounded. To continue being the person I have been, and I think that’s not very easy when you get into the kind of space we guys are in. I feel like when you are in the public eye and when you are a celebrity, it’s very difficult to stay humble for a lot of people, and I feel good that I have been able to remain the person I wanted to be.”
