Fashion designer and Bespoke City founder Bolo Bespoke has broken his silence following a wave of criticism and online backlash that followed his appearance and social media posts during the burial of the late Raila Amollo Odinga in Bondo.

Bolo, who tailored Mama Ida Odinga’s outfit for the state funeral, found himself on the receiving end after posting photos of himself alongside President William Ruto and former President Uhuru Kenyatta as they joined mourners at the graveside.

In his captions, Bolo had expressed gratitude to the two leaders, writing that he was thankful to have had them stand by his side during the moment, a statement that was widely interpreted as self-flattering and out of place.

His comments immediately sparked outrage online, with many accusing him of making the solemn moment about himself.

TikTok creators, including Nyako, weighed in on the matter, with some even suggesting that Mama Ida Odinga should distance herself from him.

Amid the mounting criticism and threats from individuals claiming they would expose him, Bolo has now responded in a candid message, telling his detractors to allow him to live his life authentically.

In a video shared on TikTok on Thursday, October 23, 2025, Bolo reminded them of how far he has come and urged people to consider where he started before being quick to berate him.

Naskia mko na chai yangu, hii nguvu ya uchoyo mnatoa wapi? Allow me to live a little and then, provided that I am not stepping on your foot, please do not invest so much of your feelings in my lifestyle. This is who I am from within, a simple man who rose from the gutters. I belong in the gutters, and it is what I like embracing,” he said.

Bolo went on to acknowledge that he has been the subject of harsh talk in recent days, with many claiming that his pride will lead to his downfall.

However, he maintained that he is not defined by such perceptions and that he is committed to living truthfully and unapologetically.

“You know of late I have been backlashed against, I have been talked about, and I have been reminded that it is just a matter of time before my downfall comes. That I have become too vocal, too proud, that I talk too much, and that my pride will destroy me. While it may be true or not true, the thing is there is something called right. I may be right, you may be right, I may be too much, but at the end of the day, the most important thing is, am I being me? Am I living the life that I want, not what you want?” he said.

The designer further urged people to stop dictating how he should live or behave based on their expectations, insisting that he would continue to express himself freely.

“From your point of view, there is a way in which you want me to behave, but from my point of view, I want to view life from who I am deep within. If I feel like talking, if I feel like being me, I will do that. Let us give each other a break,” he added.
