Austin Muigai speaks on inspiration behind his upcoming stand-up comedy
Content creator and actor Austin Muigai, known for his witty skits and plays, has announced his upcoming stand-up comedy show.
He made the announcement during an appearance on a local podcast in a video aired on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, where he shed light on the event, which marks a departure from the type of art he is popularly known for.
The show is scheduled for September 6 at the Red Room. Muigai revealed that many people may not be aware that he began his creative journey as a stand-up comedian.
He said that he had always wanted to hold a one-man stand-up comedy special. but had repeatedly postponed it over the years.
He explained that he had initially planned to perform last year but procrastinated until the year ended, adding that he resolved to finally make it happen in 2025 because there would never be a perfect time to do it.
“Stand-up comedy is coming on September 6; it will be. Many people have never known I began as a stand-up comedian.”
“I have always wanted to do it, but I have kept postponing it. But now I have decided to do it. I was to do it last year, but I kept procrastinating until the year ended. But I said I must do it this year – no more procrastinating since there will never be a right time to do it,” he said.

Inspiration for the theme
While discussing the inspiration behind the theme, Muigai explained that it is rooted in the expectations that many people hold while growing up.
He noted that people often fantasise about how life will unfold, such as expecting to join campus after high school, buy a car in the second year, and get married after four years, only for reality to turn out differently.
He highlighted that life has its own way of shaping events, a concept that inspired the title of his debut stand-up comedy performance.
“Slaps of reality because when growing up, there is this expectation that everyone holds towards life where we lived fantasising about how the future looks, but it’s actually the opposite where someone says after high school, join campus and buy a car while in second year and marry in 4 years, only for reality to slap in later, and life has its own way of doing things,” he added.
