‘Age is just a number’: Geoffrey Mosiria counsels VJ Patelo on handling marriage

Nairobi environment chief officer Geoffrey Mosiria has stepped in to advise ‘Wakudumu’ hitmaker VJ Patelo on how to handle the wave of online criticism his marriage has faced.

Speaking after the Arbantone artiste visited him at his office on Friday, September 12, 2025, Mosiria encouraged him to ignore what people are saying about his wife, Diana, noting that negative comments often come from jealousy or misunderstanding rather than fact.

Mosiria emphasised that a couple should focus on each other and avoid letting outsiders interfere in their relationship.

“Today I was visited by an Eastland celebrity. There was a wedding that was trending online, and I really enjoyed it. This brother Patelo involved ghetto youth in the wedding celebrations. And today, the bride and groom are right here with me. I want to advise you, bro, not to listen to what people say,” Mosiria said.

He further urged Patelo to protect his wife from gossip, advising him to cover his ears from negative remarks and remain steadfast in his commitment.

“People are saying things like your wife is old or making other comments. Know that she is yours, and those who speak badly are just jealous,” he added.

Mosiria used the occasion to share advice for young people, highlighting the importance of choosing capable partners, being focused, and not being distracted by societal pressures or external opinions.

He also stressed the value of appreciating partners who lift you, urging young people never to leave someone who supports and elevates them.

“At this point, if you love someone, do not let other people interfere in your relationship. Also, tell your wife not to pay attention to what people are saying. Protect your relationship.”

Mosiria also reminded both Patelo and young couples more broadly that in relationships, age is just a number, and success and happiness depend on mutual respect, trust, and commitment rather than the opinions of others.

“I also want to tell young people that if you love someone and they are focused, appreciate them. My advice is to choose capable partners and invest in them. If they lift you, do not let them go. Young people, understand that life is about planning. Age is just a number,” he advised.

The advice comes in the wake of Patelo and Diana’s wedding, which has been widely discussed on social media.

Critics focused on Diana’s age, while supporters praised the couple’s unique approach, including involving ghetto youth in the celebrations, a gesture that drew admiration across online platforms.
