In a powerful display of unity, Social media influencer and podcast sensation Eli Mwenda has declared his position on the Finance Bill 2024 by standing shoulder to shoulder with diaspora residents during the recent protests in Los Angeles.

Sharing through his Instagram account on June 24, 2024, Eli shared that he was proud to be part of those working to bring about change for his countrymen and community.

“I reject Finance Bill 2024 together with my brothers and sisters at home and abroad! Today we met in Los Angeles to lend our voices and amplify this message. I am incredibly proud of the unity we have shown at this pivotal time in our country’s history!”

“My platform has been and always will be a place of positivity and empowerment for my community. That will never change regardless of narratives that attempt to suggest otherwise,” Eli said.

Further, Eli’s presence not only amplified the voices of the community but also showcased his unwavering commitment to social justice causes.

Los Angeles protests

To show solidarity with their Kenyan counterparts, young protesters rallied in Washington DC and Los Angeles at the Kenyan Embassy on the morning of June 24, 2024.

In a video that has since gone viral, the participants criticised President William Ruto’s administration and urged the rejection of the bill, echoing widespread outrage.

Further, demonstrators held placards with #reject finance bill and #Rutomustgo printed messages as they sang in a peaceful protest.

Bado mapambano bado mapambano! One Kenya, One people, one people one voice,” the protestors sang in unison.

The demonstrators were young social media creators who promised to amplify the voices of Kenyans oppressed by the bill. In contrast to Kenya, the police let them speak freely without intimidation.
