A woman is facing sentencing in court for beating up a hawker in Nairobi over Ksh25-worth sweets.
Elizabeth Namwenya, 27, who has been arraigned and charged at Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi is alleged to have committed the offence in February.
“You are charged that on February 18, 2022, at National Archives along Tom Mboya Avenue in Nairobi, you willfully and intentionally assaulted Wario Kana Molu,” the charge sheet read.
According to a Police report seen by K24 Digital, on the material day, the complainant was on his normal duties of selling sweets along Tom Mboya avenue when a child who belonged to the accused took three sweets all valued at Ksh25 without the permission of the complainant.
The complainant then pinched the child before the child’s mother landed on the hawker with kicks. She eventually tore up his pair of trousers.
According to the report, the sweets were scattered all over the ground during the wrestling as the display table was pushed and dismantled by the accused person.
Fellow hawkers and other members of the public intervened and rescued the man from the lady.
Elizabeth was granted a cash bail of Ksh10,000.
